ess software package provides Emacs mode for statistical programming and data analysis, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install ess
ess is installed in your system.
Make ensure the ess package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep ess *
You will get with ess package name, version, architecture and description in a table
